Phou Si - Luang Prabang
Situated in the centre of Luang Prabang is Phou Si hill. The river curves around the hill, and much of the city is built on the banks of the river beneath Phou Si. Atop Phou Si is a temple, with a golden pagoda visible throughout the city. While the climb up to the pagoda is steep, it is definitely worth the effort as the views over Luang Prabang are unmatched anywhere else.
The best time to climb the 328 steps to the top for the visit is late evening, when you might get the chance to enjoy the sunset from the top. Alternatively early risers might make it to see the sunrise. The temple (Wat Chom Si) was built in 1804, but there are also other buildings to visit on the hill.
