Getting to Laos
Laos is a landlocked country, which is fairly easily accessed over land borders with its neighbours.
There are 2 international airports, one in the capital Vientiane, and one in Luang Prabang. Flights to these airports are mostly just from the neighbouring countries, but there is a route opening direct from Kuala Lumpur. The main airlines operating to Laos are Lao Airlines, Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways and Vietnam Airlines.
A very popular route into Laos is to take the slow boat along the Mekong river from the golden triangle to Luang Prabang - this is the Huay Xai / Chiang Khong crossing. Alternatively, the friendship bridge from Nong Khai to Vientiane is an easy route from Thailand to Laos. Nong Khai attaches to the Thai rail network, and is only 40 minutes from Udon Thani airport.
